This classic wildlife safari takes you through two of Southern Tanzania’s most spectacular and untamed parks – Nyerere National Park and Mikumi National Park. Known for their rich biodiversity, vast landscapes, and lower visitor numbers, these parks offer an authentic and immersive safari experience. From boat safaris along the Rufiji River to full-day game drives across expansive savannahs, this journey promises unforgettable encounters with some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife species.
Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport or the ferry terminal, your guide will be waiting to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Dar es Salaam. Overnight stay in preparation for the adventure ahead.
Early morning pickup from your hotel or the airport and begin the drive to Nyerere National Park. En route, enjoy a lunch stop in Kibiti before continuing through scenic rural Tanzania. Arrive at the lodge in the afternoon, check in, and later embark on a sunset boat safari along the Rufiji River—an excellent opportunity to spot crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of water birds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive with packed lunch. The park is home to a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, hyenas, and many antelope species. Expect stunning views across grasslands, wetlands, and wooded areas, all set against a backdrop of distant mountains. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Depart after breakfast with packed lunch for Mikumi National Park, a drive of approximately six hours through unspoiled landscapes. Upon arrival, proceed with an afternoon game drive in the park. Mikumi offers sightings of elephants, impalas, zebras, giraffes, and more. Dinner and overnight stay at a lodge inside or near the park.
After breakfast, enjoy a full-day game drive with picnic lunch inside Mikumi National Park. The Mkata floodplain supports a variety of species including wildebeests, warthogs, hartebeest, eland, hippos, and numerous bird species. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast and with packed lunches, begin the drive back to Dar es Salaam. Enjoy final glimpses of wildlife as you pass through the park on your way out. Arrival in the city is expected in the afternoon, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel, airport, or ferry terminal for your onward journey.
