4 Day Tanzania Safari to Mikumi and Udzungwa.

Overview

This is our 4 Days Southern Tanzania Safari package involving wildlife safari in Mikumi as well as getting active, by hiking the beautiful trails in the Udzungwa National Park which is also referred as the Galapagos of Africa.

The tour starts and ends at Dar es Salaam, which is the commercial capital of Tanzania and the main hub in Tanzania with many flights flying in and out of the Dar es Salaam International Airport. The tour is a private tour, so you can start on any date, but time of departure from Dar es Salaam is preferably early morning due to the long distance from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi; 5- or 6-Hours drive via the Dar es Salaam- Morogoro – Mbeya Highway.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1:Transfer from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Today very early in the morning, you will be met and picked up by one of our representatives from Safari Supremacy (who will be your driver and guide on this Safari). You will begin the drive southwest to the Morogoro area where Mikumi National Park is found. You will arrive in the afternoon, check into your rooms and have lunch. You will spend the afternoon at leisure either relaxing by the pool side or simply catch up with your favorite book. You will later have dinner and spend the night at your lodge.

Day 2:Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

You will rise up very early in the morning and after breakfast you will set out for a game drive in the Mikumi National Park . Doing Tanzania safari game drives early in the morning offers a unique chance to see the early risers as well as nocturnal animals returning to their hideouts. This entire day is dedicated to game viewing and you guide who is very knowledgeable about the animals in this park will drive you to areas that will offer you best game views. The pop-up roof on your car will give you undisrupted opportunities for photography.

Mikumi National Park covers an area of 3230 square kilometers which makes it one of the largest national parks in Tanzania. As you explore its wilderness, some of the animals you are may see include; elephants, hartebeests, buffalos, kudus, zebras, elands, wildebeests and impalas.  Hyenas, baboons, lions, wild dogs, giraffes, warthogs and hippos are the other animals you can always look out for.

In addition, more than three hundred (300) different types of birds have been recorded within this national park, a thing that will give you great opportunities to see them.

You will explore the varied wildlife habitats which include the seasonal floodplains, the grassland which are scattered with giant baobab trees and thorny trees (these are very similar to those in the Serengeti), Miombo woodlands, swamps, riverine forests and low hills.

You will take a break to have picnic lunch before setting out again for an afternoon game drive.

Later in the evening you will head back to your accommodation and there you will have your dinner and spend the night. 

Day 3:Transfer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Today you will wake up in the morning, have your breakfast and then your driver – guide will transfer you to Udzungwa Mountains National Park which covers an area of 1990 square kilometers. It is a short drive from Mikumi National Park. This park which is a less popular tourist destination has a varied bio-diversity that include (steppe, grasslands, and woodland) which supports numerous birds, primates and various plant species (approximately 2500 species have been recorded here).

On arrival, you will check into your accommodation. There will be a hike to the Sanje Waterfalls. This breathtaking waterfall has its water dropping in a three tier each dropping over a different height (30 meters, 70 meters and 170 meters). You will also hike through the verdant forest which is home to more than 400 different bird species, butterflies,, amphibians  and several primate species including the baboons, vervet monkeys and the endemic the Sanje Crested Mangabey as well as the Iringa red colobus.

You will later head back to your accommodation where you will have dinner and spend the night..

Day 4;Departure back to Dar es Salaam

This is the final day of our 4 day safari. You will have an early breakfast at your lodge and then head out for one final walk in the forest to explore the park and get a final view of its wildlife.

Afterwards, you will return to the lodge, pick your bags and then begin the drive back to Dar es Salaam. The driver will drop you to the airport or at your residence or hotel within Dar es Salaam.
